Video.js v10 Release Candidate
We’re excited to announce the Release Candidate of Video.js v10. The project has come a long way since its tech preview 10 months ago. And now, we want you to start building with it. With your feedback, a few more docs, and maybe a last-minute fix or two, we’re looking forward to shipping 10.0.0 very soon.

What is version 10?
Video.js v10 is a ground-up rewrite of not only Video.js, but also of Plyr, Vidstack, and Media Chrome. It’s a big shift in how web media players are built.
Why are we making this change? Like we said in our beta blog post, we’re:
- Shrinking bundle sizes, and then shrinking them more (the default bundle is over 60% smaller than Video.js 8)
- Allowing deep customization using the familiar development patterns of your chosen framework — including new first-class React, Typescript, and Tailwind support
- Making the defaults look beautiful and perform beautifully
- Designing the codebase and docs so AI agents building your player alongside you can actually be good at it

What’s new since beta
We promised GA mid-2026. And if you really squint… September is still closer to the middle of the year than the end… right?
It’s taken a while because we put in a lot of work. Dozens of releases, hundreds of fixes and features, almost a thousand PRs. In that time, we’ve gone from a foundation to a mature player:
- SPF, our in-house engine composition framework, went from a spike to prod-ready, while still maintaining those svelte bundle sizes
- There are dozens of new UI components, from menus to hotkey/gesture input systems. Our preset skins support them all so they’re easy to use out of the box
- We stressed and validated our architecture with tough features like live, internationalization, DRM, and the dreaded Google Cast
- The media component family got bigger. HLS and Mux have been joined by DASH, Shaka, Vimeo, YouTube, Cloudflare Stream, Wistia, Twitch, TikTok, Spotify, and more
- We let our API simmer and it’s more flavorful than ever. After feedback and testing, we’ve made 34 breaking changes, each bringing us closer to that Just Works™ Developer Experience. And now, we’re ready to call that API stable.
